Tips For Artists

One of the things I want to do this year as I posted in my last blog,

is to try to be a positive influence on the people around me. I also

want to be a positive influence to people that I "cannot" be around,

such as those that read my blog. I know there are some people, other

artists for example that would like some tips. I teach painting from

my studio, and would also like to help those here with tips they can

use. One such thing that is on every artists mind it seems, is promotion.

I spend part of my day painting, the other part promotion. I recently

came across a wonderful site that has lots and lots of links for those

that just do not know where to start. I use many of these things

myself and have found they really work! I read some new things

I want to try this coming year!

Well Christmas is over. A new year is quickly coming up.

I have been thinking about what I want to do next year. I always

make resolutions. Get more organized is one. Keep up with

my record keeping. So far...well let's just say, next year will

be the year!! Ha-ha!! I want to do even more promotion and

make the best paintings I can possibly make, but I think the

most important thing of all is to remember....life is short. Enjoy

New Printer! Yea!

I purchased a new Epson printer last night! Can't wait to get it. It is a pigment ink printer. Pigment ink is the best you can use for prints,photo's,etc. I won't have to send out for prints anymore! I can do my own prints and offer a larger selections, as well as different (and larger) sizes. I am going to offer in the future, items that people can have personalized. Yea!!

Oh my gosh!! November! This year has just been a flash. I have so much I want to do. I have three birthdays next week, and a show in two weeks, and I am not ready!!! Oh well, somehow I seem to always get things done, maybe by the skin of my teeth, but I get it done! Along with getting some new paintings finished, I have even more leaves to rake. I have been working very hard on portraits lately and

painting I just finished today. I have noticed we are

starting to get just a little fall color already in a few trees.

The color inspired me to do this little landscape.

It seems that when you are "tagged", you are to write about interesting or bizarre things about yourself. Well.....from my prospective, I can't think of many interesting or bizarre things! I will tell you a little to give you an idea of who I am if you are so inclined to be interested. Ha-ha!

1.I was born and raised in Indianapolis Indiana. I live now just a few miles from Mooresville Indiana. Mooresville is still a relatively small town, known as the boyhood home of John Dillinger. 2. I "was" married and have one son that now happily lives in California with his beautiful fiance. 3. I have two horses, two dogs and two cats. Lots of wild creatures visit often also! Sometimes seems like living in a zoo!! Ha-ha! 4. I have painted all my life. I started out doing murals on my parents walls, (which they did not appreciate!). That is when they started buying me art supplies to keep me away from walls,etc. 5. I now work in my studio at the historic Stutz Business Center in Indianapolis. This is where they manufactured the "Stutz Bearcat Automobile", among others. 6. I am a full time artist/painter and absolutely love being able to do everyday what I love! 7. I love to learn new things. I try to learn something new each day that is not part of what I do. I like to share on Twitter new information I think people might enjoy. Learn Something New!!!

I have started something on my Twitter page (see the link below), and want to continue it here on my blog.

I used to drive my parents crazy asking them "Why". I still am asking that same question. I do not ever want to be satisfied with information that people give me. Question everything. If you learn something new, ask yourself why or when etc. Let one question lead you to another question. Expand your world and your mind!

I want to encourage everyone to learn something new each day. I would like for you to come back ("Follow" if you are not already) to my blog and let me know what you have learned.

I get bored with small talk! The world is a very big and complex place.

So many people let their world stop at the end of their nose! Venture out and expand your world.

Example, if you are an artist, learn something about science. If you are a scientist, learn something about the arts. Anything. Anything new! The mind is no different than your muscles. Use it or lose it!!!

I was contacted by a Prime Time Emmy winning set designer.

(I don't know if I should mention his name). He found my

work online and purchased several pieces of my work

to be used on the set of a new television program

starting in January on the Fox network called,

"Past Life".

This red barn is on my farm near Seymour Indiana. The farm

and barn have been in my family since the 1850's. I am working

on a couple of portraits, but I just had to get out and do this

painting. Here in Indiana in the spring, there is a purple plant

that blooms in some of the fields. The purple in the fields really

inspired me to get out and paint this scene.
