Whale Warriors

I just want to make people aware of what is going on. I am so sick of what people are doing to our planet and innocent animals! FWI...I am on a mission! I want to give the innocent animals a voice. I am going to use my art to help give them a voice. I know there are lots of causes out there we can be involved in, but here is mine. Please watch this video and learn!!

WHEN DID I BEGIN PAINTING

When I meet someone new that looks at my paintings, they almost always ask,
"When did you start painting?". I tell them this funny story, (funny now).
*
I have been painting and drawing all my life. I can't even remember the
first time I started my painting exploration!
It all began when I was so small (2 or 3) the only thing I thought of was, my parents
walls are really bare. I need to do something about it! Oh my poor parents!
I got in trouble several times, didn't understand why at that early age
why they would get so upset when I was trying to make their walls "pretty"!
*
For instance, my mother had a card club coming
one evening. She was going to rearrange the furniture to make room
for card tables. To her suprise, she found one of my "murals" behind
one of the chairs on her freshly painted wall! In my defense, I didn't
have proper art supplies, so I used her red lipstick!! Not my fault...they
should have bought me proper materials! LOL! Another time, my
mother had just finished wall papering (really absorbant paper) my bedroom.
Cost her a pretty at that time! I remember thinking,
"It just needs something!".
I found her "Ban" roll on deoderant and did another mural! My poor mother!!
After that, guess what...they started making sure I had art supplies!!
*
My point here is, I hope if you have a child or grandchild that just needs
to "help" your walls a little, please don't get upset with them...just
get them art supplies! They can't help it! It is just born in them
to create!!! :)
*
I was very lucky. My grandfather was a painter and a photographer. He
told my mother..."Leave that girl alone!!". He understood. He told
my mother, "She will do what ever she sets her mind to!"
Thanks Grandpa!!

The Stutz Artist Open House

**Pic of people lined up to get into the show**
*
Wow!! This was BY FAR the best show I have ever had
at the Stutz! This pic is on one side of the building and
doesn't even show the whole line! I will post more pics.
*
As I said, this was the best show I have ever had at the
Stutz Artist Open House. I got to meet a few people
that I talk to via Facebook. Very nice to meet them in
person! Had great sales and have some people
coming in next week for portrait commissions!
I stayed up really late after the Friday night show and
could hardly keep my eyes open for the Saturday show
but IT WAS WELL WORTH IT!!! For anyone who
came to the show, I hope you had a great time and
thank you so much for coming!

Couples Portrait

Couples Portrait
*
This is a new portrait I just finished. I worked from a
very old black and white photograph. I would like to
tell you a little bit about this couple.
They ran off at seventeen without their parents
knowing and got married. Their parents were horrified
when they found out. They are now 84 and 85 years old.
They are still married. He became a very successful
physician, and they have two sons that are also very
successful! Goes to show you...sometimes parents
arent' always right!!!

Working on portrait

I haven't posted any new pics for a little while. I am working on a portrait commission I will hopefully post soon. I am working from a photo that was taken in the early 40's of a couple that at 17 ran away and got married. I have been commissioned by their son to do a painting of their wedding photo. I was told the family was not happy about them running off at such an early age to get married, but it all worked out well. They have had a very interesting life. They are 84 years old now and still married to this day. I guess you could say, it all worked out very well!! I will tell you more when I post the portrait.

Art From The Fourth Chakra

The Stutz Artists Association teamed up with the American Heart Association
to present "Art from the Fourth Chakra," an exhibition featuring work that
explores the human heart, during American Heart Month. According to
traditional Indian medicine, chakra is a concept referring to energy centers
that permeate from points on the physical body. There are seven major
chakras, one of which is the heart.

The show runs February 5 - February 25, 2010

Does art have to be expensive?

Does art have to be expensive?
*
This was a question that came up in a forum I was reading today.
I was reading posts from artists that explained how the process
of making art can be very time consuming. Many people have
degrees, take special classes/workshops from well known instructors, etc. and
feel they deserve to charge more for their work. Some artists win awards,
and/or have their work in prestigous galleries and collections. This
all adds up to experience. The more experienced and talented an
artist is, if they are lucky, will have many collectors. The fact is, art, good
art, takes a lifetime of practice and hard work. Very hard work!
Many people really do not realize the hard work, money and
time artists invest in their career. So, if you see a piece of art that
you believe is overpriced, try to find out just who the artist is, and what
they have invested in their career to get where they are.
**
Myself, I know things are tough right now for many people. They do not
have the cash flow that they would like to buy art. Just because someone
doesn't have a lot of money, does not mean they are a person that does
not love or appreciate art. I try to have a wide variety of sizes and
prices for people to be able to afford my art if they so choose.
