Helping To Make Memories

HELPING TO MAKE MEMORIES

I just love what I do.  I have had so many people tell me thank you.  Thank you for preserving a memory they could have lost if it wasn't for the painting I did for them or the painting they purchased from me. Creating a landscape the person lives near or has lived in, in the past.  A portrait of a loved one. A Grandmother,Grandfather,Mother,Father that has passed.  Painting a portrait of a child that will change, as you know very quickly.  Freezing a moment in time.  Being able to put dimension into a painting This makes my client happy and me very happy too! When I am working on a painting or portrait I admit, I have in the past only tried to think how I can do a great job on this painting.  I would think about how much I enjoy the process of doing the painting.  Only when I have a client see the painting for the first time and see the reaction is when I see how my work contributes to the happiness of another person.  I have to admit it is surprising to me.  I was only thinking about me.  How self centered is that?!  If you are an artist you never know how your work will contribute to the life of the client you are talking to now and the people that see your work in the future!  I believe we are given powerful gifts to make the world a better place.  I urge you, no matter what you do, do your best in whatever work you do and you too will not only make others happy but yourself also!

These are examples of a paintings that made a clients very very happy!

Wedding Blog

I have been reading posts on Facebook and blogs relating to weddings. A lot of couples are busy planning their wedding. There are lot's of great tips and ideas. One great blog I came across is "Style Me Pretty"  Vendor guides, DIY wedding projects, weddings, galleries, fashion and much more.  If you are planning your wedding I would definetely recommed you take a look!

One other idea to make your day special, whether you are planning your wedding or celebrating that wonderful day that has already passed, is an oil portrait.  An oil portrait is a wonderful addition to make the wedding day even more special!  I have worked with brides and grooms to make lovely additions for their home and family, creating a wonderful family heirloom for generations to come.

If you would like to discuss an original oil painting commission, feel free to contact me at: pattitrostle@aol.com    You can also go to my main web site at: http://www.pattitrostle.com to see other portraits and paintings.  I would love to hear from you!

Stairway To The Sky

Original Oil on Canvas Fall Landscape Painting

Oil on Canvas
16 inches x 12 inches

To purchase this painting CLICK ON THIS LINK

I am fortunate where I live to have access to beautiful landscape
subjects year round.  Here in Indiana the seasons provide artists
with changing colors and a new picture almost every time you
visit the same area.  I came across this painting in
my studio I did in the fall.  I remember I was very moved by the light.
Light striking the leaves in a such a way that made the landscape
seem to be providing a Stairway to the sky!

Figure Drawing - Original Brown Graphite Sketch Female Model

brown pencil almost nude figure drawing

Figure drawing with  brown toned pencil on heavy archival paper.

Often I do a pencil sketch, a value study in preparation for larger and more complicated painting. I find that these more spontaneous pieces have a personality and elements not always found in the final painting.  I am now going to be offering sketches for sale.  I will be posting new sketches often.  As always, I use only archival materials.
This original drawing is on 10in (w) x 12in (h) paper, but the image will beautifully fit in a standard size 8in x 10in mat opening.  Mat or frame not included.

You might as well say spring is here!  The days are getting longer and the weather is getting a little warmer.  I have buds coming out on my trees and my irises are coming up nicely.  I love to wake up to the birds singing again!  This has inspired me to do more floral paintings soon.  I am finding a big interest in pink flowers lately from my clients.  I just might do some pink roses etc.  I hope you will "Follow" and check back to see what I am working on.

Pet Portrait

Pet Portrait

pet portrait oil painting
Here is a portrait of a little guy (Scout) that my client purchased today.  I was very happy with the fact she was thrilled with the outcome!  (the original looks much better than this photo) This little guy is very young and was so sweet and very patient with me as I took his photo's.  By the time I was finished, he was so sleepy he couldn't keep his eyes open!  It was a real pleasure painting this precious pup!

Article For Artists

Reasons 2012 Is The Year
To Think Seriously About Putting
Your Art Online

...even if you think a brick and mortar
gallery is the best option, think about
selling online!

and prints and notecards to purchase!

1.  Numbers Don't Lie - 3 out of 4 people are not only using the internet daily, they are increasingly using the internet for shopping.  People turn to the internet for options they simply cannot find in their local areas.
75% of the U.S. population alone are using the internet and the numbers are increasing daily.

2.  Our 2012 Lifestyle - We’re a culture of instant gratification. Ideas pop in our head and we want to execute them immediately.  If we are to compete in the climate, we need to have our work "out there" for people to see and purchase. Make sure your audience can feed their “on demand” appetite with your art!

3.  Mobile Friendly - Make sure your art is mobile friendly.  An ever increasing number of people are using Smart phones, and use them to check updates such as Twitter and Facebook throughout their day.

4.  2012 is the year of Commerce - A increasing number of brick and mortar businesses have realized this and not only have physical doors open to the public, but are utilizing the internet for increased sales.

Many people I spoke with did all their Holiday Shopping online and with great results.  These people and many more will be following the same route.  One person can tell another person of a great deal or wonderful item they saw and purchased online, and this person purchases the item also.  She/he passes on the good news and...well you get the picture! I myself have a studio where the public can come in and purchase prints, paintings, notecards, etc., but I realize how important the internet is to get someone to actually come to my studio to see the phyical thing!

5.  Control Your Presence Online -  Whether you realize it or not, people will research your history.  Be careful how you come across to people in the social network situations.  Let them know you can be trusted with purchases.  Do you have a return policy.  How is your artwork shipped?  Is the item safely shipped in secure packing?  People want to know when they get your art, you did all you could to get it to them without damage.  People do not want to take the time to repack and return.  I know shipping companies and postal services sometimes do not treat things with care.  Pack as if your art will be thrown off a bridge!

What are you waiting for?!  Now go out there..be seen..and most of all..have fun!!

Pet Portrait A new commission I am working on.

One of my New Year Resolutions is to blog more.  I thought one thing I could do is show you one thing I am working on at the present time.  A new client commissioned me to do a pet portrait of her precious puppy.  This puppy is less than a year old and was an absolute sweetheart to work with.  He was happy, friendly and very cooperative.  More cooperative than some people I have photographed!  Here is the referance for the painting I am working on.
One thing my client wants. is a very neutral, timeless and very classic look to her painting.  It is a real pleasure painting this little guy! I hope you check back for more blogs and to see the finished painting!

The inspiration behind..and the history of my painting "The Rose"

The inspiration behind...and the history of
my painting "The Rose".
First I want to say my favorite flower is the rose. The
rose in this painting was from my personal rose garden.
I am always inspired to paint floral paintings, but the rose
being so soft with it's heavenly scent, is what I reach
for first. Not only was this rose absolutely beautiful, I was
inspired by the lyrics of a song at a time in my life when things
were, (no pun intended) a little thorny. The lyrics are from
a very well known song by the same title as my painting,
"The Rose". The version of the song I like is performed
by Bette Midler.
The song reminded me and still reminds me...keep going.
There is a spring after the long winter..our lives will bloom
again with time!
To read the lyrics of the song..

Here is a suprising thing that happened to me one day,
involving this and many of my other paintings and prints.
*
I received an e-mail one day from a man asking me if he
could purchase some of my paintings and prints to be used
on a new television show set that was due to be released.
Of course my immediate thought was..this is some nut
trying to scam me. You hear about scams everyday on
the internet. He gave me some links and phone numbers
to check him out. He KNEW that I would think it was someone
up to no good! I checked out the links, which was the history
of this person. It turned out, this man was an Emmy winning
set designer with a very long list of movies and television shows
he had designed sets for. He even gave me a password so I could
e-mail him. Yes...people have to have a password just to e-mail
this man! When I called the number/numbers he gave me, I was
suprised to hear I had reached Warner Brother's Studio!!! His
secretary put me right though! They indeed bought several
of my paintings and prints and I was so shocked and thrilled
to see them when the show aired! The show was, "Past Life". The
show didn't last long..but his set was (not just because I had work
on there) gorgeous!! For his privacy, I won't mention his name,
but here are a few of the tv shows and movies he has designed
sets for.
