New Portrait Commission for OneAmerica
I will be starting on a new portrait for OneAmerica.
I was honored to be asked to visit and tour the corporate
office. Here are three portraits that I have done for them
in the past. They are displayed beautifully! I was also
humbled to learn my work is a part of the extensive and
very impressive art collection they have in the corporate
offices. The work in the collection is amazing! They keep
the collection under lock and key it is so valuable!
They also gave me a great lunch!

You might as well say spring is here! The days are getting longer and the weather is getting a little warmer. I have buds coming out on my trees and my irises are coming up nicely. I love to wake up to the birds singing again! This has inspired me to do more floral paintings soon. I am finding a big interest in pink flowers lately from my clients. I just might do some pink roses etc. I hope you will "Follow" and check back to see what I am working on.

The inspiration behind..and the history of my painting "The Rose"
The inspiration behind...and the history of
my painting "The Rose".
rose in this painting was from my personal rose garden.
I am always inspired to paint floral paintings, but the rose
being so soft with it's heavenly scent, is what I reach
for first. Not only was this rose absolutely beautiful, I was
inspired by the lyrics of a song at a time in my life when things
were, (no pun intended) a little thorny. The lyrics are from
a very well known song by the same title as my painting,
"The Rose". The version of the song I like is performed
by Bette Midler.
The song reminded me and still reminds me...keep going.
There is a spring after the long winter..our lives will bloom
again with time!
*
Here is a suprising thing that happened to me one day,
involving this and many of my other paintings and prints.
*
I received an e-mail one day from a man asking me if he
could purchase some of my paintings and prints to be used
on a new television show set that was due to be released.
Of course my immediate thought was..this is some nut
trying to scam me. You hear about scams everyday on
the internet. He gave me some links and phone numbers
to check him out. He KNEW that I would think it was someone
up to no good! I checked out the links, which was the history
of this person. It turned out, this man was an Emmy winning
set designer with a very long list of movies and television shows
he had designed sets for. He even gave me a password so I could
e-mail him. Yes...people have to have a password just to e-mail
this man! When I called the number/numbers he gave me, I was
suprised to hear I had reached Warner Brother's Studio!!! His
secretary put me right though! They indeed bought several
of my paintings and prints and I was so shocked and thrilled
to see them when the show aired! The show was, "Past Life". The
show didn't last long..but his set was (not just because I had work
on there) gorgeous!! For his privacy, I won't mention his name,
but here are a few of the tv shows and movies he has designed
sets for.
Dawson's Creek-Won a primetime Emmy for this
Invincible
When Harry Met Loyd
Get Low
The Joneses
The People vs. Leo Frank

Couples Portrait
*
This is a new portrait I just finished. I worked from a
very old black and white photograph. I would like to
tell you a little bit about this couple.
They ran off at seventeen without their parents
knowing and got married. Their parents were horrified
when they found out. They are now 84 and 85 years old.
They are still married. He became a very successful
physician, and they have two sons that are also very
successful! Goes to show you...sometimes parents
arent' always right!!!

More than 70 artists open their studios to visitors during the two-day event. It's not only an opportunity to see the work of 70 local artists in one place at one time, it's a chance to see where and how the work is created. Artwork ranges from paintings, drawings and photography, to sculpture, jewelry and furniture.

In addition to being a great place to buy one-of-a-kind gifts - artwork ranges from $12 to $10,000 - the event offers a rare chance to see vintage cars in the historic Stutz car factory. Visitors also enjoy special gallery opening activities such as acoustic music and food vendors.
*
The 17th Annual Stutz Artists Open House will be held: Friday, April 23, 5:30 pm to 10:30 pm and Saturday, April 24, 2:00 pm to 7:00 pm at the Stutz Business Center (1060 N. Working on portrait
I haven't posted any new pics for a little while. I am working on a portrait commission I will hopefully post soon. I am working from a photo that was taken in the early 40's of a couple that at 17 ran away and got married. I have been commissioned by their son to do a painting of their wedding photo. I was told the family was not happy about them running off at such an early age to get married, but it all worked out well. They have had a very interesting life. They are 84 years old now and still married to this day. I guess you could say, it all worked out very well!! I will tell you more when I post the portrait.

Does art have to be expensive?
Does art have to be expensive?
*
This was a question that came up in a forum I was reading today.
I was reading posts from artists that explained how the process
of making art can be very time consuming. Many people have
degrees, take special classes/workshops from well known instructors, etc. and
feel they deserve to charge more for their work. Some artists win awards,
and/or have their work in prestigous galleries and collections. This
all adds up to experience. The more experienced and talented an
artist is, if they are lucky, will have many collectors. The fact is, art, good
art, takes a lifetime of practice and hard work. Very hard work!
Many people really do not realize the hard work, money and
time artists invest in their career. So, if you see a piece of art that
you believe is overpriced, try to find out just who the artist is, and what
they have invested in their career to get where they are.
**
Myself, I know things are tough right now for many people. They do not
have the cash flow that they would like to buy art. Just because someone
doesn't have a lot of money, does not mean they are a person that does
not love or appreciate art. I try to have a wide variety of sizes and
prices for people to be able to afford my art if they so choose.
**
You can check out some of my art and prices in my Etsy store.

November!
Oh my gosh!! November! This year has just been a flash. I have so much I want to do. I have three birthdays next week, and a show in two weeks, and I am not ready!!! Oh well, somehow I seem to always get things done, maybe by the skin of my teeth, but I get it done! Along with getting some new paintings finished, I have even more leaves to rake. I love working outside in the fall. The crisp air, the smell of the leaves. Just trying to find the time for everything!
