Special occasion portraits

I have to admit I am really suprised.

As the economy seems to worsen, my

workload for commissions, especially

portraits have increased. It seems from

the people I have spoken with, they are

investing in art, due to Wall Street not

being something people can count on.

If you think about it, banks cannot control

what artists charge for their art. Come to think

about it, people have a hard time controlling

artists period! Just another thing I love

about being an artist. My point is this,

consider a wedding portrait, anniversary portrait,

birthday portrait, graduation portrait, etc. Capture a

moment in time of that child, grandchild or any

other special person in your life. Why not

commission a painting of a special event? Portraits

and paintings I am realizing more and more, are

something that are cherished for generations!

I like the way the glass bowl distorts the truth. These peaches

are your typical round shape, but put in a bowl with curves and

edges, makes them seem something other than what they are.

The title came to me not only in the way the image here is distorted

but the way people also see the truth. I have heard it said, our truth

is only what we believe it to be. Have you thought something only to

find out later it wasn't the truth at all? I thought this painting was an

excellent analogy for this fact.

I haven't posted any new paintings for a while. I am working on a portrait

commission. I will post it when it is finished. I will still be working on some

small day paintings as I work on the portrait, so check back to see what is

new.

This is another painting I will have in the Regions

Bank show. This image came from the web site

of Karin Jurick. Each week Karin posts a photo for

a large group of artists to paint. The challenge

of the week for this photo was to do the painting

upside down. They upload their painting image

to her site "Different Stroke for Different Folks". It is

interesting to see how each artist paints the photo

in their own style.
